Frequently Asked Questions

Will AntiEtch change the look or feel of my countertops?
-AntiEtch is a crystal clear application creating a protective barrier for your stone. It’s nearly undetectable and will not alter the look or feel of your countertops. After the service is completed, you may wonder if it's actually been applied.

What locations does Stone Sealers service?
-Stone Sealers proudly serves the greater DMV region, including Washington, DC, Arlington, Fairfax, Chantilly, Baltimore, and Annapolis, as well as Richmond and Charlottesville, VA. If you’re unsure whether your property falls within our service area, we’re happy to help — just reach out and our team will confirm.

What if there is an etch or stain? Is there a guarantee?
-Yes. If an etch or stain cannot be resolved after all recommended corrective steps have been taken, the warranty covers both the removal of the existing AntiEtch treatment and its reapplication.
-This is backed by an industry-leading 40-year warranty for long-term peace of mind.
-Collectively, we’ve protected over 1 million square feet of countertops with AntiEtch — and have yet to see a single etch on a properly treated surface.

Can you treat backsplashes?
-Backsplashes can be treated as part of new installation projects only. The AntiEtch application must be completed while the stone is laid horizontally, prior to being installed vertically as a backsplash.
-For existing backsplashes that are already set in place, we recommend using a high-quality penetrating (impregnating) sealer for appropriate protection.

How long does the service take?
-A standard 50-square-foot kitchen typically requires approximately 10 hours to complete. Depending on the level of preparation needed, this may be spread across two calendar days to ensure proper application and curing.
-Each project is assessed individually, as surface condition and prep requirements can affect overall timing.

What is the heat and scratch resistance of AntiEtch?

-AntiEtch is heat resistant up to approximately 300°F — which is comparable to quartz. That said, we always recommend using trivets or hot pads to protect the surface. In terms of scratch resistance, the coating is engineered to match the same hardness as marble. This allows it to expand and contract naturally with the stone, but it also means it can still scratch under certain conditions. The good news is that scratches typically don’t detract much from the overall appearance, and the treatment is highly repairable. Most surface scratches can be buffed out or blended seamlessly through a service visit.

How much does the service cost?
-Since every kitchen is different, the price will vary depending on the current condition of the countertops and the amount of prep work necessary to perform the service effectively.
-A polished finish typically costs about 10-15% more due to the increased labor over a honed finish.

How do I prepare for the day of service?
-Clear all countertop space and remove anything you may need during the time the service is being performed. Please put away all pets and keep them clear of the area.
-Remove stains. We suggest using a stain removal product such as MB stone Stain Reaper or baking soda. If there are existing stains in the stone, they will show up after the service has been performed due to the nature of the service. Stain removal usually takes 36 hours minimum so it is best to prepare multiple days in advance of the service.
-Remove faucets and drop in sinks/ranges. For this treatment to be done effectively, faucets and drop in sinks or ranges MUST be removed. We are unable to do this for clients due to liability. We recommend calling a plumber. This must be completed to ensure an even coating and protection.
